Lower Back Tattoo Designs and Other Areas
The most well-known area of the body to which tattoos are applied is likely the
arms. This area does have several advantages. There are several spots on the arms where the flesh and fat is thick
enough that the application of the tattoo is relatively painless.
There is a good deal of flat surface area with which an artist may work and, for
those who want something more expansive, the curvature of the arms lends itself nicely to tattoos that have
wrapping built into their design. Other areas of the body are also popular, however. These include lower back
tattoo designs including lower back tribal tattoos, tattoos ideas,
wrist and ankle centered, shoulder, neck and legs as well.
Tattoos on the side of the body are very popular. The location, in the case
of these tattoos, is oftentimes one of the driving factors in the
selection of the artwork. For example, tattoos of wings, angel or devil style, on the sides of the body are very
popular and very dramatic.
Oftentimes tattoos that appear on the sides of one's body are part of a larger
piece that wraps around from another popular area, the back. There are some considerations one must keep in mind
when expanding their tattoo work beyond the most common areas, even getting into lower back tattoos. Designs will
make it or break it and size is an important consideration.
Lower back tattoo designs are extremely popular among women. The practice has
spread throughout all levels of our society so that working women and royalty have all been photographed with
fetching patterns
The back of the shoulders provides a good example of what to expect on some areas
of the body. Most of this area of the body is fairly thick with skin and fat. However, along the back shoulders
there are spots where the bone is close to the surface of the flesh.
These are the areas where the sensation associated with tattooing will be the most
intense, in the vast majority of cases. While most individuals have no problem tolerating this sensation, it can be
a bit overwhelming at first so be ready for a bit of a rush the first time the needle hits an area such as the
ribs, the elbows or the collar bones. Oftentimes, those with a fair amount of body art describe this feeling as
among the most addictive of the sensations associated with the practice.
The legs are another popular area for
tattoos, especially among those who want a very large piece but who, often for professional reasons, need to
be easily able to cover up their artwork at various times. The thighs and calves are good areas for those who
may have a bit of trepidation about the sensation of getting a tattoo as these are among the toughest and
thickest areas of the body.
Remember to select a design that goes well with the area where one chooses to have
it placed. For instance, don’t attempt to get very large tattoos on an area such as the shoulder where it will
constantly flex and bend when one is wearing clothing that shows it off. Get such tattoos on more stable areas of
the body.
Likewise, the legs and arms are excellent for tattoos that have a long,
vertical orientation but not as well-suited to tattoos which are thicker across the horizontal aspect of the
design. Lower back tattoo designs must be proportional to the size of the waist and hips to be most effective. Too
small and it could look silly, too large and the effect could become unattractive.
